The Basics of Roulette
Roulette is a French word which means 'little or small wheel.' It is one of the most popular gambling games in the world. It was formed in the 18th century and has been played since 1976 in Paris, where the very first modern roulette wheel was used. It was introduced in the US in the 1800s but became much more popular in Europe. The most famous casino center for roulette is located in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

The roulette game is usually composed of eight players; each of them buys chips with different color as that of the other players. This is done to avoid confusion and mix up. The dealer or the croupier spins the wheel and is in charge of the payout and wagers.

Roulette's main apparatus include a roulette table and a roulette wheel.

A roulette casino table has a layout, a cloth that covers the betting areas on a table, which can either be single zero or double zero. For instance, players in France use a layout with single zero while Americans prefer layout with double zero. The roulette table also has colored and numbered spaces which correspond to the colors and numbers of the compartments of the roulette wheel.

Meanwhile, the wheel is a movable bowl on the roulette table divided into black and red parts that are alternately but not sequentially printed with numbers from 1 to 36. There is also a compartment printed with zero for French roulette and two zeros for American roulette.

Playing roulette is easy. It is a game of luck wherein the main objective is to predict the number that might come up after spinning the wheel. Players have their own systems or methods in playing roulette. Some participants bet on 'hot or winning numbers', which come up more frequently. Some bet on many numbers, which increases their chances to win. Some bet on numbers that did not come up the first time believing that the time has come up for it to show up.

Each player places a bet on any number, except 0, on the table layout or on the outside. The player has the option to place outside or inside bets. The croupier or the dealer spins the wheel and launches the ball. Before the ball drops to the slot, the dealer shouts 'no more bets', which means that no more bets are placed or changed. When the dealer places the dolly on the winning number on the table and every bet has been cleared, the dealer pays the winner and new bets are placed for the next round. The person who placed a bet on or around the number that came up is declared the winner for that round. The winner exchanges the colored chips with cash chips that are imprinted with a certain value amount. The cash desk will then exchange the winner's cash chips with cash money.

Roulette is guided by two rules: the 'En Prison' rule and the 'La Portage' rule. En prison means that when the result is zero, players have the options to take back half of the bets they've placed or leave it for the next round. La Partage, on the other hand, means that if players lose half of the bet, they can't leave the bet for another round
